H.E. Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Chairman of the National Health Regulatory Authority, is one of the pioneers of health care practice in Bahrain leading the setup of the military health services in Bahrain since the early 1970s. One of His Excellency key achievements was the inauguration of the first military hospital, the Bahrain Defense Hospital, which has since been expanded to include 390 beds and a wide range of specialized clinical services.
His Excellency served as Undersecretary of the Bahrain Defense Force from 1999 to 2006 and as Minister of State for Defense Affairs from 2006 to 2014. Since January 2013 he has held the position of Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health which oversees a range of health sectors including the Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, Private Health sector and health regulating bodies. The councils’ main role is to set national healthcare policies and strategies for all health sectors in Bahrain.
