Professor Lantieri is Professor of Plastic Surgery at Assistance Publique Hopitaux de Paris and Head of Department at Georges Pompidou Hospital at Paris Descartes University. He did his Fellowship at Washington University, U.S.A.
Professor Lantieri played a major role in developing the French referral center for the management of neurofibromatosis and developed original techniques for facial disfigurements due to plexiform neurofibromas. He and his team have performed eight of the forty-two face transplants carried out worldwide to date including the first full face transplant, first bilateral face transplant and, most recently, the first retransplant. In 2012 he received the Legion D honneur (the highest French civilian medal) in recognition of his work.
